The Place
The Setting
Artekoborda, Souraide
An old Basque farmhouse, restored with care and left with its bones intact. Stone walls. Timber beams. Thick windowsills that frame the hills like paintings. The house sits at the end of a long gravel track, surrounded by meadows, woodland, and a chestnut grove planted over 150 years ago by the great-grandfather of the man who lives here today.
It is the kind of place that asks you to slow down simply by existing. We have taken it in its entirety, for the group, for the week.
The grounds
Land that breathes
Behind the house, a chestnut grove stretches across the hillside, old trees, wide canopy, the kind of quiet that settles into you as you walk. In autumn, the ground is deep with fallen leaves and the smell of earth and wood.
The property opens onto the hills and woodland of the Labourd. The only sounds are the ones the land makes itself.
The long gravel track that leads to the house sets the tone from the moment you arrive: you are leaving the everyday behind.
